Comic Script

Here's a script I wrote for a comic.

Title: The DANCE

Page One

Panel One

Close-up of grasshopper head – realistic as possible while still being lazy
No dialogue

Panel Two

Grasshopper jumps, is half-way out of panel. Tip of white rubber seen in panel corner. Wood floor.
No dialogue

Panel Three

GH bounces again – line follows his movement down to the wood floor and up again, dodging what is now realized as a shoe
No dialogue

Panel Four

Shoe crushes grasshopper. Shoe fills panel, fluid and GH legs emerging from bottom of shoe.
FX: CRUNCH!

Panel Five

Some slacks and a dress: the legs of a boy and girl in dance hall with wood floor. Teenagers. Few other dancers in background.
No dialogue

Panel Six

Their faces: The girl with a sly smirk, and boy nervously grinning. Both white, realistic. Girl’s hands on his shoulders. His hands on her waist (out of picture).
BOY: H-heh….

Panel Seven

A fuller view of the boy and girl. Boy is looking at floor.
BOY: I’m no good at this….

Panel Eight

A full front-on view of the girl’s face. It’s a little dark in the room – impressive shadows on her face.
GIRL: You don’t like dancing?

Page Two

Panel One

Boy’s face is now at normal height but eyes are pointed upwards, at ceiling. He scratches his head.
BOY: That’s…

Panel Two

Boy’s face is at three-quarters view.
BOY: …It’s not really that.
BOY: I don’t like….
BOY: [farthest from face]…Humans….

Panel Three

Girl at two thirds, opposite side of panel as boy was before, face angled at opposite direction. Raised eyebrow, open mouth. Quizzical look.
GIRL:Ummmm… huh?

Panel Four

Boy looks at floor again. Frowns.
No dialogue

Panel Five

Both faces in this panel, but only faces – not much room for their heads. Lines of shock extrude from boy’s face. Girl looks a little irate.
GIRL: HEY! Zac.
GIRL: Girl here.

Panel Six

Girl now looks a little worried. Eyes look straight at you.
GIRL: I don’t understand.
GIRL: Are you feeling well?

Panel Seven

Boy looks at you now as well. Opposite as before.
No dialogue

Panel Eight

Boy is determined, upset, at two-thirds. Fills panel. Dramatic extreme close-up.
GIRL: Zac?
BOY: I’m fine. And I don’t like humans.
BOY: I am a misanthropist.

Panel Nine

Girl opposite as before, mirror of eighth panel. Eyebrow raised VERY much. She has no clue what’s going on.
No dialogue

Panel Ten

Zac walking away. He is sad, sad. His arm swings behind him, below his waist, waving away at the girl.
No dialogue

Panel Eleven

Zac looks back, forlorn.
No dialogue

Panel Twelve

Girl is waving at another boy, facing away from Zac.
No dialogue

Page Three

Panel One

STARS!
No dialogue

Panel Two

Zac’s head looking up, stars in BG
No dialogue

Panel Three

EXACT SAME THING

Panel Four

EXACT SAME THING, AND
ZAC: Wow.

Panel Five

Bottom of dress (different than before), black shoes, and another grasshopper on the grass. Girl walking.
No dialogue

Panel Six

Girl stops near Zac. Dress about a yard from the boy’s black slacks.
NEW GIRL: Hey, beautiful stars, huh?
ZAC: Totally.

Panel Seven

Slacks have turned to face dress. Still we only see their bottom halves.
No dialogue

Panel Eight

Just speech with stars in BG
ZAC: [top] I’m a misanthropist.
NEW GIRL: [bottom] …Me too.

Page Four

Only Panel

Stars.
